The Port of Mönsterås has six harbour cranes, all equipped with OilQuick OQC 65 fully automatic quick coupler systems. With the OilQuick system, operators can stay in the cab and change hydraulic, mechanical and electrical attachments at the push of a button.

We met with Mattias Nilsson, Supervisor at Södra's port in Mönsterås.

"Here at the Port of Mönsterås, we handle approximately 400–500 vessel calls per year. Each vessel carries different types of cargo. Some arrive to unload logs, while others come to load pulp. We also handle sawdust and wood chips, so there is a wide variety of materials, primarily from the forestry industry," says Mattias Nilsson.

"The pulp mill here produces approximately 750,000 tonnes of pulp annually, which we transport by sea, road and rail."

"We have six cranes operating at the port, from both Liebherr and Mantsinen. All of them are equipped with OilQuick quick couplers, allowing us to switch smoothly between different attachments. We use buckets to handle wood chips, grapples for logs, lifting beams for pulp and lifting equipment for loading timber," Mattias explains.

Safety and Efficiency – The Main Reasons for Choosing OilQuick

"The main reason we chose OilQuick here in Mönsterås was safety, but also the time savings when switching between attachments."

"Before OilQuick, changing attachments required three people working from an aerial work platform to manually disconnect the hydraulics. Today, the operator can do it with the push of a button from inside the cab," Mattias explains.

"The crew is extremely happy with the system and wouldn't want to work without OilQuick. It really makes a huge difference."

"I've only been working here for a year, but during that time, we haven't needed any service support from OilQuick. We've had a few minor hydraulic issues, but we've been able to resolve them locally."

Smooth Attachment Changes Make a Big Difference

"Today, for example, we've had four different vessel calls, handling logs, wood chips, sawdust and pulp. The ease of switching attachments with OilQuick is absolutely fantastic!" Mattias concludes.
